“It’s hard to have a bad hair day when you’re famous.”
—Marion Jones, world champion track and field athlete
See if some of these celebrity-associated hairstyles ring a bell: Jennifer Anniston’s Rachel cut from Friends, one of the most popular of all time; Farrah Fawcett’s feathered flip, which fueled many a teenage boy’s dream; Meg Ryan’s perky shag, the first runner-up in a recent poll by hair-product giant Goody. Know the terms pageboy, bob, pixie cut, cornrows and beach waves?
Notwithstanding the Marion Joneses of the world, most of us suffer from at least an occasional bad hair day. That and a constant quest to find the perfect style, which doesn’t require half a day to manage, occupies a fair amount of everyone’s time.
Everyone presents his or her persona to the world. And hair plays one of the most important keys in that presentation. We make statements with our clothing and makeup or our jobs, lifestyles, homes and more, but there’s nothing that speaks more loudly about how we feel about our personal selves than our hair. The phrase “bad hair day” wasn’t created for no reason.
That’s where people like Jennie Baker, hairstylist, come in. She’s one of those “hair gurus” we depend on to help us find our way.
Omaha born and bred, Jennie graduated from Marian High School and went on to a bachelor’s degree at UNO. However, when she hit the real world, she felt unfulfilled in business administration. She needed to do “something she loved,” she said. So, before she wasted half her life, she moved into a career in hair. She got her training at Xenon Academy before going to work for a large salon.
She has since moved to a more intimate, family-owned salon—Bellezza. Her specialty is color, but she loves helping people “find their look.” From the client who hasn’t found the right style yet to the self-conscious client struggling with getting older, Jennie is there to help guide the way to personal expression. She wants to make clients feel like “they were born with this color,” she said. And while she’s really not your person if you’re looking for more outrageous, such as purple hair, another Bellezza stylist may be.
There aren’t really that many everyday hairstyles—all the standards are still around. It’s all a matter of making it look fresh and current with a new tweak or a new personal twist. That’s why wizards such as Jennie continue to be revered. They help define that personal statement, even without purple hair. To learn more or schedule an appointment, contact:
